Earlier this month I had the great honor – courtesy of Dr Ursula Murray Husted (who is a freaking amazing cartoonist herself) – of being a visiting artist/cartoonist at the University of Wisconsin Stout. I got up before dawn, hung out in some classes, offered my sage advice, and gave a lecture – “shut up and draw” – in front of a crowd. That’s something I just don’t do. Well, I do now, apparently. I’m told it went well.

You can see a few pics and read all about it here.

The students were all amazing, I had a great time, and man, rural Wisconsin is so…rural. But you know what? I was supposed to be at NYCC the week I was up at Stout, and the love and enthusiasm they had for comics and the medium with just a few classrooms full of students surpassed the energy of some oversold con in a big city. Forget the big urban zones, let’s bring the comics to the outlying areas. So much more satisfying!

And anyone interested in getting a PDF of my “shut & draw” lecture can email me and I’ll gladly send a copy.

A lot has been happening recently and all of it at an unusually break-neck pace. So how about we all kick back and catch up a bit, OK?

No Straight Lines: Four Decades of Queer Comics by Justin Hall – Yes, I have a comic in this book. But that aside, this book is an absolute must-have for anyone with an interest in LGBT comics. Justin did an amazing job of pulling together a really comprehensive collection of queer comics and charting their history. A gorgeous book filled with so many amazing creators past, present, and future that it is worth every last penny.

SPX September 15 & 16 – My last con for a while. The last SPX I tabled at was in 2002, let’s see how time has treated the show I always had the most fun at. Oh, and who do I get to share a table with? None other than the lovely Jenn Manley Lee.

Max & Lily – Let’s Begin Again – After a long internet absence, I’m bringing the Max & Lily archives back via Tumblr. I’m posting them weekly (Fridays), in order, with some added commentary by me. I’ll also post artwork, mini-comic covers, and other Max & Lily relics along the way. It’s been quite fun going back in time and remembering all that was going on when I drew these strips. Join me, won’t you?

She Said in Italian - The wonderful Renbooks in Italy is running She Said translated into sexy, sexy Italian. I really love seeing how my words “look” in another language and Renbooks is doing a lovely job!

She Said in French - Prefer She Said in French? Then the LGBT BD site has that covered. I dig how the two sites approach the type differently, yet each work for me. I love the fluidity of the font LGBT BD is using.

The Gay Comics List Reviews She Said – François Peneaud has some cool insights into She Said. One of my favorite reviews so far.

Kris Dresen Comics Books on Demand - I’ve updated my shops. Books on Demand takes you to my print-on-demand store, where you can order the print collections of She Said, Grace, She’s in the Trees, and Every Part of You is Familiar to Me. The print quality is excellent (I do order books regularly to make sure they are consistent) and if you keep an eye out, lulu.com offers some great discounts at times.

Kris Dresen Digital Media & Other Goodies - Want a signed copy of one of my books? Are you all about the digital and want a PDF of She Said, Gone, She’s in Trees, or Grace? Or how about the print version of Gone? This is the shop you wanna be at. I’ll also toss up odds n’ ends and other rarities from my publishing adventures as I come across them.

Whew! I think that’s all for now. But more is coming soon!

And that image up there? A nugget from about ten years ago – the back cover for a French edition of Manya – Falling. It’s amazing what you find when you go digging.

As always, thanks for checking in!
